People enjoy Swedish Massage for many reasons…to relax, recover from injuries both old and new, to increase circulation and work out muscular knots and spasms…in other words, to create a feeling of ease, and well-being while getting relief from physical tensions. It can increase the mobility of joints, improve circulation, aid in detoxifying and cleansing, and promote relaxation.

In Swedish Massage, many different techniques are used to accomplish these goals. The strokes can be relaxing and soothing or stimulating and energizing. They sometimes incorporate static pressure on specific points, or stretching and rotating the limbs. Therapists who have training in other techniques, such as acupressure or deep tissue, may incorporate those into a session as well. The treatment may be full body or focused on specific areas, at the client’s request. The client disrobes to his or her comfort level and, except for the areas being massaged, is draped with a sheet and/or blanket to maintain warmth and privacy. The therapist checks in about pressure, warmth, music, etc., all of which can be changed to make the massage a more pleasant experience.
