Peter Hartman does many types or styles of massage. After 20 years in clinical practice {with accompanying study} there have been many aspects of anatomy, physiology, and technique that have been investigated and incorporated into his practice. Neuromuscular and osteopathic massage has been his focus for 15 of the twenty years he has been in practice, He spent 12 years as senior LMT in a chiropractic practice with numerous chiropractic physicians to consult with, and often did.
Many medical conditions were considered and researched because of his interest and the importance for clients. As the emotional and energetic interface with the body became more obviously needed by his clients his work led to deeper study including shiatsu, five element theory and how trauma affects the body. He has also studied a human’s relationship to time, space and societal interaction which, in turn, affects the body.
He is not a psychotherapist, physicist or theologian but since it is part of my clients lives it is important to study and try to understand. Peter works very subtly or with significant pressure depending on what is needed. Neuromuscular techniques are conversations, each person needs a different “tone of voice” IE sometimes giving slack, sometimes rhythmic reset, sometimes pressure accompanied by movement, sometime light and still touch just waiting for the body to figure out how to shift the stuck energy.
Peter has raised four girls and a boy, all grown now. 25 years of construction work (mostly in Santa Fe) has taught him many ways to hurt and the importance of patient rehabilitation. Gardening, cooking and tea are daily activities for Peter. He lives on his family land outside Glorieta with his wife, Mother and brother also sharing the land.
